Marostica, Italy

One of my favorite parts about our trip to Italy were our day trips, to somewhat unknown, or smaller towns that may not make everyone's itinerary. Marostica was one of those towns. A walled city built in the 1600s (common of many towns & villages) that was absolutely pristine and stunning, known for its LIVING chess event held every two years. (Think, Wizard's chess from Harry Potter, they use real horses, knights, swords, and use the huge chess board in the central piazza in town.) Every corner of this town was beautiful, and we enjoyed our picnic lunch in the warm sunshine! We drove along the outside of the wall to the top to take in the SPECTACULAR views of the town, and of the foothills of the Dolomites, or Italian Alps. What a day...
